The Bus Ride

The Bus Ride

You may need to file this under … “you had to be there”

We were on a bus (Greyhound size) from our hotel to Sea World. The trade show I am attending is pretty much all inclusive, hotel, display booth, meals, entertainment, drinks, snacks, whatever you want, whenever you want it. The dinner event we were attending was winding down, so we caught one of the early buses back. The bus ride appeared uneventful as we pulled into what I thought was a shortcut to the hotel (not knowing Orlando that well … ). We had pulled into an apartment complex, the bus proceeded up and down between the buildings and slowly everyone on the bus (80 or so people) realized that the driver was terribly lost. I turned on my phone GPS and we were 1.4 miles from the hotel, then, we hit a dead end. Though we thought for a moment that the bus driver may be stopping in at her boyfriend’s place, we were certain that she was lost as she tried to maneuver the large bus between the Prius and the Honda Accord.

As the bus driver backed up, window shades started moving, as the apartment residents looked out. I can only assume this is the most entertainment they have seen in years. Stunned drivers maneuvered their cars around the bus, and finally a helpful resident (or a homeless guy) helped our driver back out to a central location, from where she made it to the main road outside the complex. As I was still following along on my GPS, I crossed my fingers for a left hand turn and a quick couple minutes to cover the 1.4 miles back to the hotel.  No such luck, she turns to the right, but, we were at least on a main highway.  After a short 3.8 mile detour we made it safely to the hotel.

The driver was a good sport, as you can see from the picture.
